Leadership
Some of the opportunities helped me lead and one being in charge of the Great Lakes Trade Show. Before the Great Lakes Show I was preparing by picking out things that will make our booth stand out. And during the trade show I was selling and talking to other firms about our products. I realized that I was not making sales by just standing at our booth so I walked around and talked to other firms. Another leadership opportunity that I had is when I led a department meeting and I went through what was good and improvements that we need to make. This was a good opportunity for me to share my thoughts and they were heard and I feel good that I did do this because I also heard what my department had to say.
Professionalism
A lot of my work has been done with professionalism. I am always on time and make sure what I need to do and when it needs to be done. At the beginning of the year I had the opportunity to interview with Mr. Stitch and Jake Forest. And this allowed me to not only dress professionally but perform professionally, I came in with lots of confidence and my resume and gave my all. After the interview I sent them both an individual thank you letter for their time. Another time where I spoke professionally is when the accounting team and I presented in front of the class explaining how accounting works. And so my part was explaining the balance sheet and I think this is a good example of professionalism because it shows skill and ambition.
FUNCTIONAL & CORE TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
In the beginning of the year we had to create a projected business plan. And being part of the accounting department my job was to create a projected balance sheet. And at first to me it was really hard probably because I was overthinking it. But even though I was in accounting and knew what a balance sheet was, I didn't know how to create a balance sheet. Then apart from that I had to present in front of the class and explain what the balance sheet is and how it is useful to companies. After speaking briefly about the balance sheet I realized that it wasn't that hard and even I learned more about accounting. And I hope to make a balance sheet at the end of the year as well.
During the beginning of the year I had no idea how to work google sheets. And now I know how to journalize transactions I also have updated the sales tracker. I also had no idea how to work the VEI portal and I have also made orders and updated inventory. In our department we have tasks that we each need to do but we help each other out if one person is not there and take over their tasks. So I have experience with the different type of tasks in our department and I don't just journalize all day. I check to see if our sales tracker is up to date and if we need anymore merchandise. And I have also done payroll numerous times and it is a good experience because you start to understand how everything functions and how it all comes together. The good thing about my department is that it requires a lot of technology skills everything we do is online.
w-2 & 1040 VE
Presentation
Ryan and I made a short presentation on the W-2 and 1040 and we explaining how everything worked and how to complete the 1040. Ryan explained what the W-2 is and how we need it too submit the 1040. And there was a template on the VEI portal for the 1040 so we put that on google classroom so it could also guide our co-workers. I also explained how certain parts we don't have to fill in because they don't apply to us. And it was a short presentation because the template on google classroom helped a lot and after they completed that they just had to copy their information on the submission form in the portal. This presentation really showed my leaderships skills and allowed me to communicate with my peers and help them with whatever they need.
